It will never be common sense because there’s nothing about it that makes sense. The only part I agree with is about what someone is wearing, because that actually doesn’t have an effect on preventing rape in most situations. The other things? Those are, in fact, risk factors. Does it mean a person deserves something bad to happen? Of course not. What it means is that as a thinking human being with agency, YOU are responsible for your safety as much as you are able. YOU are responsible for judging the situation and who you are with. YOU are responsible for the risk you put yourself into. YOU are responsible for how much or how little you drink knowing that it limits your inhibitions and may make YOU consent to things you wouldn’t normally consent to, which is not rape. If YOU choose to get blackout drunk, and someone has sex with you in that state, THEY are the rapist shitsplints and deserve jail. But YOU could have done something to PREVENT it. This is not difficult.

Of course they deserve it. Every human DESERVES safety, respect, and bodily integrity. But we don’t live in a utopia. And until we do (probably around the time pigs fly), we owe it to people to operate under the world we have. Stop telling people to be sitting ducks because for some reason you think logic that applies to every other crime doesn’t apply to rape. Stop telling me that taking responsibility for my own safety is silly, and that I should just trust rapists to not rape me. I’m more than that and so is every other able bodied and able minded man and woman in the world. - Stef

My brother just asked me if he should watch John Dies at the End and I had to try to explain to him why he’d HAVE to read the book first.
